  1. A sievert is the SI unit (symbol Sv) of 
  2. radiation dose equivalent. It replaces the 
  3. rem (1 Sv equals 100 rem). Some types of 
  4. radiation do more damage than others for the 
  5. same absorbed dose, eg: the same absorbed 
  6. dose of alpha radiation causes 20 times as 
  7. much biological damage as the same dose of 
  8. beta radiation.
